Tamil actor Aishwarya Rajessh, who made her Hindi film debut with the recently-released Daddy, says that the biggest challenge for her was grasping Hindi. Aishwarya, who has done films such as Kaaka Muttai (2015) and Rummy (2014), says, “I can’t speak Hindi, so that was a challenge. Also, I didn’t have any live reference to base my character (Asha Gawli, wife of gangster Arun Gawli, played by Arjun) on. I have never met her, and the research material wasn’t much, hardly one or two pictures! While shooting, our director Ashim (Ahluwalia) would point out what needs to be added. Geeta Gawli (daughter of Arun) would give inputs too.”

While every newcomer aspires to star in romantic, light-hearted comedies for easy acceptance by the audience, the 27-year old insists that it was a conscious decision to begin her career in Bollywood with an intense crime film. “I don’t think any newcomer has gone for a film like this to debut. I am somebody who is not too fond of fancy or commercial stuff, like dancing around trees. Even in the 20 films I have done in South, none had any of such stuff. I have never danced in any film of mine, barring some stage shows.”

She says she doesn’t believe in taking up only leading roles. “I don’t go by the screen time. Even if I have one or two scenes, it is essential that people remember me.”
